Save the Dates!

The date is confirmed!  The 2010 Friends of the Fund event will be held on November 19, at the Convention Center in downtown Lancaster.  As in the past, the event will highlight recent accomplishments and feature some of our most successful clients and dedicated advocates.  Last year we had nearly 300 in attendance and hope to meet or exceed that number this year.  The event is a great venue for networking with business, political, community and economic development leaders.  If you are interested in sponsoring the event, contact Stephanie Kessler and click here to view the varying sponsorship levels.  This year’s Keynote Speaker will be Judy Wicks, founder of Philadelphia’s White Dog Cafe and a national leader in the local, living economies movement.  Visit the 2010 Friends of the Fund page for more information.

Also, our next Entrepreneurial Speaker Series date has been set.  The next event will be held on July 21st at the Lancaster Community First Fund office.  The topic that will be discussed is Low Cost Marketing.  Visit our web page soon for more details and to register for this free event.

Work at Community First Fund for a Year

Do you want to spend a year working at Community First Fund in our Loan Administration or Finance Department?  We are looking for recent college graduates or retirees who, through the AmeriCorps VISTA program, would be working to help build our organizational capacity.  Founded as Volunteers in Service to America in 1965 and incorporated into the AmeriCorps network of programs in 1993, VISTA has been on the front lines in the fight against poverty in America for more than 40 years.  Visit the AmeriCorps or our web page for more information.

Client Profile: El Sol

Boasting authentic Mexican cuisine at its finest, Juan and Lisa Garcia are the perfect couple to own a restaurant.  Juan has more than 15 years of experience in the restaurant industry and firsthand knowledge of authentic cuisine (he grew up in the Guadalajara region of Jalisco, Mexico). Lisa has more than 10 years experience in the hospitality industry and shares in Juan’s understanding of Mexican culture, having spent time there after they married. It was only natural that the Garcias use their background to open an upscale restaurant in downtown Harrisburg.

Juan and Lisa worked with Community First Fund to obtain financing for their start-up costs. El Sol has already gained recognition for its specialty entrees such as the Molcajete de Camarones and the house Guacamole, made fresh daily. “While owning this restaurant requires a lot of juggling of our schedules–we have two small children–, the experience has been rewarding in many ways.  View their menu and specials on their website.
