IT’S ALL IN THE FAMILY.
This local grocery store located just outside the historic district in Reading, is a full fledged family affair. Husband and wife, Ramon Metz and Juana Collado have been in the grocery store business since 2003. They seek out stores that are in good locations but are performing poorly and turn them into a respectable and customer friendly shopping areas. They came to Community First Fund for assistance in renovating the property.
Both Ramon and Juana work here full time along with their daughter Diana Paparez. It is family owned and operated, providing customers with a welcoming feel upon each visit. La Antillana 2 was purchased in 2006 and the store was seen as an upgrade from the prior corner grocer. Beyond just a grocery store, the building now provides affordable rental units on the above floors. The family believes strongly in the revitalization of local neighborhoods. They are experienced in the grocery business, with a combination of ten years, and see it as an essential part to any well established community.
