Caribbean Bakery, Dauphin County
$85,000 loan

Miguel FerrerD

IVERSITY OF SPIRIT AND TASTE LEADS TO MANY UNIQUE ENDEAVORS! Miguel Ferrer, pictured with wife Carmen Ferrer, originally came to Central PA from Puerto Rico. In 2007, he first approached Community First for funds to jump-start his trucking company. Then with that same entrepreneurial spirit, Miguel returned to Community First to finance another love: baking.

As principal of the Caribbean Bakery, Miguel distributes his breads and pastries to local stores, and is in the process of renovating the front area for general retail. Miguel notes that the daily support of his family members has aided in this business’ success. While Carmen works in the front of the store five days a week, Miguel is busy baking in the back. Caribbean Bakery boasts the biggest sandwich in town and is patronized by almost everyone in the neighborhood, even the mayor! Community First’s financing has been used to purchase the property, acquire additional kitchen equipment and make cosmetic improvements to the building. Small businesses like the Caribbean Bakery are integral to retaining resident buying power within neighborhoods.
