DIGGING UP FLOWER BEDS AS A LITTLE GIRL, KATHRYN MCNAMARA QUICKLY DISCOVERED HER KNACK FOR GARDENING AND DESIGN.
After becoming a certified horticulturist, Kathryn worked for area country clubs and the renowned Mainline Estates before opening up her own shop in downtown West Chester. The space purchased by Kathryn was in dire need of renovations; a loan from Community First Fund helped cover improvement costs. Most clients who visit Kati Mac Floral Designs, which opened last October, note that the shop is more inviting; it is much more open and bright, with expansive windows to draw in customers.
Kathryn and her staff are committed to running a sustainable and “green” floral shop. The new floors are cork and marmoleum, a 100% recycled material. A waste compost is in place, the condensation from the fridge is recycled, and the shop has initiated a vase recycling program: vases brought in are used for charity work or given to thrift shops. By instituting these company-wide policies, Kati Mac Floral Designs serves as a premiere example for other businesses wishing to become more economically and environmentally conscious.
