Dan Betancourt

Daniel Betancourt has been President and CEO of Community First Fund since May of 1999. He has more than eighteen years experience in microenterprise and small business development including thirteen years of banking experience, including positions as an assistant vice-president of commercial lending at a large regional bank. Under Dan’s leadership Community First Fund has grown to a very successful Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI). During the last fiscal year, Community First made 95 loans totaling over $5.2 million and brought the total capital under management to over $15 million.

Dan is the Chair of the Association for Enterprise Opportunity (AEO) Board of Directors, the national leadership association for Microenterprise and also serves on AEO’s finance and executive committees. Dan is a member of the Pennsylvania Dan BetancourtMicroenterprise Coalition and co-chairs its Strategic Planning Committee. Additionally, Dan serves on the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh Advisory Board, and is the current Chair of the Lancaster Spanish American Civic Association (SACA) a board member of SACA Development Corporation.

In 2003 Dan was named one of the “Top Forty Under Forty Business Leaders” in Central Pennsylvania by the prestigious Central Penn Business Journal. In 2004 he received the PA Latino Pride Award for Economic Development from the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Latino Affairs. In 2005 Dan received the Eastern Pennsylvania Minority Small Business Champion of the Year Award from the U.S. Small Business Administration. Dan was a finalist in the “Nonprofit Leadership Excellence” category of Central Penn Business Journal’s 2007 Nonprofit Innovation Award.


Joan M. Brodhead, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Community Fist Fund and Director of its Women’s Business Center joined Community First Fund in 2004.   As Vice President and COO Joan oversees lending, loan operations and financial management and is a member of the Senior Loan Committee. As Director of The Women’s Business Center at Community First Fund, Joan focuses on addressing the needs of new and existing women entrepreneurs.  In 2007, Joan was a panel member in the Women’s Congressional Hearing and Summit sponsored by Pennsylvania Congressman Joe Sestak and was able to testify to the obstacles women face:  lack of access to capital and lack of established business networks and support systems, through which business knowledge is shared.Joan Brodhead

Joan has over twenty-five years of experience in finance and community development lending. Her previous experience includes seventeen years in commercial banking where she was vice president for a regional bank, focusing on small business and community development lending, credit underwriting and loan administration. In addition she has more than seven years experience as a business owner, providing consulting services for the community development industry. Her background includes consumer and commercial lending, as well as management of community reinvestment activities for a multi-state market. Joan is Chairperson of the Pennsylvania Microenterprise Coalition, a member of the Association of Women Business Centers, and the 2008 Eastern Pennsylvania SBA Women in Business Champion of the Year Award. Joan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cedar Crest College, Pennsylvania.
